About Social Impact Nerd

Established in 2022, Social Impact Nerd is run by Natalie Chevalier, a North Carolina native and Chicago transplant.

Natalie is a lifelong social sciences enthusiast, devourer of literature, and obsessive formatter of spreadsheets. While in pursuit of her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, she was introduced to the work of Dr. Paul Farmer of Partners in Health fame and her passion for the nonprofit sector was truly cemented. She later earned her Masters in Public Affairs with a concentration in Nonprofit Administration from Western Carolina University.

Throughout her journey Natalie has had the privilege of working with and supporting organizations in a variety of cause areas – racial healing, green collar job training, international education, volunteerism, and more:

Natalie has a strong inclination towards systems work, both in terms of creating positive social change and strengthening back offices to set organizations up for success. She loves creating processes and tools that work across departments to work smarter rather than harder!

Accounting & Bookkeeping
  • Monitor revenue and expense trends, integrating with annual budget development
  • Configure all financial systems, processes, and policies to ensure ability to meet a variety of compliance and reporting needs
  • Oversee audit and tax preparation, AR/AP, account categorization and reconciliation
Board Relations
  • Serve as Staff Liaison on Finance, DEI, Tech, & Strategic Planning Committees
Compliance & Contract/Grants Management
  • Co-lead grant and contract reporting and compliance (government and non-government)
  • Manage organizational contracts, filings, licenses, and registrations
  • Communicate compliance terms across teams
Content & Literature Development
  • Support marketing efforts, providing draft content
Database Administration
  • Configure and manage organizational databases
Development Operations
  • Preside over all aspects of CRM database, maintaining integrity of relational data and contribution records and ensuring issue of donor documentation
  • Compose proposal budgets in alignment with identified needs
Fiscal Sponsee Management
  • Serve as primary contact to sponsee, supporting annual appeal, webpage maintenance, accounting, and donor relations
Human Resources & People Operations
  • Advocate for life-work balance and supportive team culture
  • Oversee processing of payroll and benefits administration
  • Research emerging best practices, and propose related policy updates
  • Develop and coordinate departmental cross-training plans
  • Initiate position planning, managing recruitment and onboarding processes
Information & Records Management
  • Curate strategies and tools for information and document management

Organizational Strategy & Leadership
  • Served on multiple Leadership Teams, supporting organizational development

  • Develop and implement resources, processes, and systems to maximize efficiency and effectiveness

  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration to meet deadlines and deliverables
  • Lead special administrative projects, such as adoption of new project and volunteer management software

  • Assess responses and trends to guide consideration of organizational shifts

  • Craft surveys for a variety of internal and external audiences
Technology & Website Maintenance
  • Create and maintain organizational webpages, platforms, and profiles
  • Lead internal tech support and related vendor relations
  • Manage organizational GSuite
Volunteer & Community Engagement
  • Serve as organizational representative at events
  • Develop and lead large-scale CSR and public initiatives for community impact – including school beautification, COVID-19 remote learning response, cause-related education, and food distribution
